Objectives

The class aims to give you an understanding of how computers work, but it is also a very practical class and we hope you will find it useful in solving problems with your own computer.

Entry requirements

What background and qualifications do you need to join? You need to be interested in the technical side of computers, you should have use computer for word-processing or internet, some technical knowledge is useful but not essential.

This 1 week course will look in detail at how Laptops work and how to fix problems with hardware and software. The course takes you from beginner level up to level 3, and will give you the skills to upgrade computer systems and to solve a range of problems. Some of the skills you can learn from this course are how to upgrade computer memory, how to add a hard drive or a DVD writer, how to replace a power supply, how to re-install Windows, how to protect your computer from internet threats, and how use devices such as webcams and memory card readers. The second half of the course goes into more detail and its more practical, so you can use this course to help you maintain your own computer, or as a starting point for a career as an IT Technician. What does the course involve?

  • Types, work, volt, Ampere, pin detail, Basic problem.

  • (Battery)Types of Battery, work, volt, pin detail, Basic problem.

  • LCD: Types LCD, Brand, size, and wideness.

  • Inverter: Types of Inverter and pin detail.

  • Hard disk: Types of hard drive its problems and solutions.

  • Keyboard: Type of keyboard, Basic problem, and solutions.

  • Body/Housing

  • Hinges size, Front Panel, Back Panel.

  • PCB/Motherboard: Type of Motherboard its manufacture Identification.

  • Ram: Types of RAM.

  • CPU/Processor: Types of Laptop /Desktop CPU its identify diagnosing and troubleshooting.

  • CD/DVD Drive: Type, brands, Basic problem.

  • Introduction to tools and equipment’s

  • Installation of windows on secure boot enabled laptops (for latest laptops who have this security)

  • Installation of Windows without losing customer data (Data Backup and recovery)

  • How to create Bootable USB Drive.

  • Networking -IP address-Ipconfig-Assigning IP address

  • Hardware Section (Theory & Practical)

  • Identify each component & IC’s in the Laptop motherboard.

  • Testing of electronic components (Multimeter use)

  • Resistors, Capacitors, Diode, Inductors & Fuse (PCB Component identification)

  • Proper use of the regulated dc power supply

  • Understanding of OHM’S Law (Voltage, Amps and Resentence)

  • Repair & Parts replacement (Practical Troubleshooting) » How to repair/replace DC Jack (charging connectors)

  • How to repair/replace LCD, LED and Touchscreen

  • How to repair/replace Speaker, Microphone and Headphone socket

  • How to repair/replace Keyboard and Mouse

  • Soldering and DE-soldering practice of IC’s

  • Soldering dislodging of USB Port, DC Power connector, FTP Connectors, Ethernet Connectors, and HDMI/DVI/ VGA Ports.

  • Removing and Inserting Small SMD Components

  • Tracing Different Section of Motherboard:

  • Chip Level Practical (Using Solder Iron, BGA Machine, SMD Machine)

  • Micro soldering (Proper use of a microscope)
