2019 VINTAGE:
Spring started dry and cold with rains coming late. The four weeks from late-Nov to mid-Dec witnessed 7-inches of rain. A godsend in hindsight as we experienced the driest summer on record with less than 2-inches from late-Dec through Feb. This parching added to the heat with the summer being 2.5 degrees hotter than normal. Picking times were early and wines will be full fruited with soft tannin structure.

Brachetto is an Italian grape of origin. It is one of the only grapes to smell and taste of strawberries and rose water. So it’s a little like drinking Turkish Delight. We build a dessert wine by leaving the grapes ripen past 14 baume and then stop fermentation with 3 baume of sugar left so we end up with natural sweetness to about 70 grams per litre. Our d’Soumah range of wines are made with fruit sourced from our own and other premium vineyards throughout Victoria to produce wines of distinct character and finesse. Gently Sparkling ‘A frizzante wine with soft flavours of strawberry and rose water.’ Brachetto is a north eastern Italian grape variety that has been a favourite since the time of Romans. Only a few vineyards in Australia grow the variety that is like liquid Turkish delight. The sweet flavour of rose water and strawberries fills your senses yet finishing clean and fresh. Gently sparkling and made in a sweet raspberried style though it has enough freshness and zip for it to work (just) as a table wine. There are far worse ways to spend your time.”
