US WW2 Service Collectible Pins - 3D Frames

All contributions to the war effort were recognised, most poingant of all were the families that had fighting age men in the various services, roles and theaters of operation.  "Son in Service" material started in WW1 and returned in strength in WW2 and took many more forms.
 
A red white and blue background had a single blue star for each family member engaged.  Those with a gold star indicated the ultimate sacrifice for their country and world freedoms.
 
The big innovation of WW2 was more commercial use of thermoplastic - Bakelite and others to save metal, many late war badges were made out of ivory thermoplastics with a steel pin in the back.  Earlier ones could be steel or cast alloy - eventually even this use of metals was needed for the war effort.
 
Jewelers also produced these pins in sterling silver or various grades (karats) of gold.
 
Our 3D frames include a description tag and have a magnetic strip added to one edge - this can be used with our larger framed pieces with magnetic strips to make a floating collage for the wall or desk top.
