About the event

Join us for a fascinating seminar on the art of Islamic astronomy, where we will explore the rich history and incredible achievements of Islamic astronomers. Islamic astronomy has a long and storied tradition, spanning over a millennium and encompassing diverse cultures and geographic regions. From the early work of scholars such as Al-Khwarizmi and Al-Farghani, to the groundbreaking discoveries of Al-Biruni and Ibn Al-Haytham, Islamic astronomers made significant contributions to our understanding of the cosmos.

During this seminar, we will delve into the techniques and tools used by Islamic astronomers, including the astrolabe and the celestial globe, as well as the mathematical and astronomical concepts they developed, such as trigonometry and the determination of the Earth's circumference. We will also explore the influence of Islamic astronomy on European scientific thought and the legacy of these remarkable scholars today.

Speakers include Imad, Director of New Crescent Society. New Crescent Society celebrates the relationship between Islam, Astronomy and faith. Discover more here.
