About the Event

An offsite AWP reading and fundraiser, featuring writers from across the post-soviet space, standing in solidarity with Ukraine. Amid the last year of brutal war, people in the US and abroad have been turning to literature to find comfort and take action, bringing awareness to atrocity and raising funds for those most in need.

Writers  have the power to help and a responsibility to do so. This reading continues in person the virtual Voices for Ukraine gathering that took place in March 2022 which raised  $8k in aid to writers and humanitarian organizations.

Hosted by Julia Kolchinsky Dasbach, readers include poets, writers, and translators: llya Kaminsky, Katie Farris, Olga Livshin, Olena Jennings, Ali Kinsella, Kristina Gorcheva-Newberry, Rimma Krannet, Grace Mahoney, Sasha Senderovich, Ekaterina Suvorova, Sasha Vasilyuk, and Olga Zilberbourg. Refreshments and snacks will be provided. Books by the authors will be available for purchase.

Proceeds from the event will go to Ukraine TrustChain, an all volunteer-run nonprofit started by Ukrainian immigrants in the US. They work with local volunteers on the ground, going directly into areas hard to reach by larger international organizations. They provides urgent food, medical supplies, and transportation to safer regions.

Co-sponsored by the University of Washington's Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, the UW Translation Studies Hub at the Simpson Center for the Humanities, and Bracken Magazine.
