About the event

Evoking the actual

Gestalt therapy has always been deeply rooted in existential philosophy. While

existentialism often evokes associations with deep mental activity on heavy subjects as

loneliness, being-towards-death, and dread, the actual work with these existential topics

are rather ‘zuhanden’ (available) and lively.

In this workshop, Jan Philip and Ralph will work with the actual that comes up in the group

and learn how to apply what is and what emerges in your everyday work and life. The

workshop is grounded in some theoretical intermezzos taken from a rich history of

experience of both trainers.

Trainers:

Jan Philip Wieringa (1951) ‘playing with nothing’

Psychologist and Gestalt therapist. Holds practice in Groningen where he for many years

worked in close relation with the university there, enthusing recently graduated

psychologists into the existential and gestalt perspective on psychology and how to

become a therapist. That is not by applying all your techniques, but by becoming a human

being with another human being. Playing with nothing, meeting the other as a subject

among subjects and playfulness describe in short Jan Philips way of ‘doing therapy’.

Ralph Evers (1980)

Psychologist and Gestalt therapist. Holds practice in Utrecht and works at BuurtzorgT

(specialized mental healthcare). Works as a senior trainer at the NSG. Besides psychology

also studied Daoism and philosophy at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. His approach to

therapy allows being your flawed self as a person and therapist. Using humor, accepting

what is, and integrating this in a holistic, both body and mind, a perspective which is situated

in the here-and-now context of the person–environment relation.
